In a significant step toward bolstering Indian Army and India’s self-reliance in defense, Axiscades Technologies, an Indian engineering company, has won a contract to supply 12 man-portable counter-drone systems to the Indian Army. This order, placed under the Ministry of Defense’s emergency procurement powers, mandates the rapid delivery of the crucial systems.

Advanced Capabilities for Enhanced Security

The newly contracted systems are designed to effectively detect, track, and neutralize hostile unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). Their key operational features include:

  • Detection Range: The systems can identify drones at ranges of up to five kilometers.
  • Neutralization Method: They can jam drone signals across multiple frequencies, which disrupts flight control and data transmission.

Axiscades Technologies President of Defense, Sharadhi Chandra Babu, stated that the contract underscores the government’s confidence in “indigenous defense technology”. He emphasized the company’s focus on delivering “advanced, field-ready solutions that enhance national defense capability”. While the contract’s value was not disclosed, it represents a strategic investment in the nation’s security.

Addressing the Escalating Drone Threat

The Indian Army’s accelerated development of counter-drone technologies is a direct response to numerous incidents where drones were used for surveillance and arms transport along the Pakistan border. The threat has grown more urgent as commercial drones become cheaper and easier to modify for military use. This deal is part of a broader, sustained Indian effort to strengthen both its offensive and defensive drone capabilities. In the past year, the army and other services have tested a range of domestically supplied platforms, including:

  • Loitering munitions.
  • Long-endurance UAVs.
  • Multiple counter-drone platforms.

Alignment with “Atmanirbhar Bharat”

The reliance on local firms like Axiscades Technologies is strongly aligned with the government’s “Atmanirbhar Bharat” (self-reliant India) policy. This policy prioritizes homegrown defense manufacturing to meet immediate operational requirements and simultaneously build long-term industrial capacity in critical military technologies. The contract exemplifies India’s push for self-reliance in its defense apparatus.
